Mailing Lists
The available options for a mailing list are:
Type of List:
ANYONE CAN POST: With this option selected anyone can post to you
list.
ONLY SUBSCRIBERS CAN POST: By selecting this option only registered
users of your list can post.
ONLY MODERATORS CAN POST: With this option only the owner of the
list can post.
Reply to list:
Have replies sent from subscribers (or users) go to the list rather
than to the sender of the original message.
Disable List Command:
A user can obtain a list of users subscribed to a list server mailing
list by addressing a message to the list server (for example, imailsrv@domain.com)
and entering the LIST listname command in the body of the message.
If you do not want users to receive a list of the subscribers to
your list, select this option. List owners can always access this
command.
Disable Subscriptions (Private List):
When selected, refuses a Subscribe request to the list. The owner
or administrator must add new users through the Mail Control Panel.
Note that unsubscribe requests are always honored.
Enable Digest Mode:
You can offer your list subscribers a digest of messages sent to
the list server mailing list. The list server stores all messages
sent to the list in a digest mailbox. The accumulated messages are
then sent to digest subscribers as a single message. Digest options
can be set from the mail control panel.
Enable Subject Modification:
When selected, displays the text string (entered in the edit box)
at the beginning of the subject line of every message sent to the
list.
Enable Header/Trailer:
When selected, displays the text information at the begining and/or
the end of every message sent to the list. To edit the header or
trailer text click on the header.txt or trailer.txt button in your
mail control panel.
Allow Unsubscribe On Subject Line:
When selected, the list will accept the following commands in the
subject line to unsubscribe: unsubscribe, remove, signoff.
Maximum Message Size:
The maximum size (in bytes) of a message that can be sent to a list.
Enter 0 if you want the size to be unlimited.
Number of Recipients Per Message:
You must calculate this number; it determines the number of recipients
each SMTP process will send to. If you expect under 2000 users subscribing
to the list enter the value 25. If you expect over 2000 users subscribing
to the list, divide the expected number of subscribers by 25, and
enter the result as the number of recipients per message.
Send Welcome:
You may wish to send a standard greeting to new members who join
the list. This option allows you to do so. To enable this option
click on the subscribe.txt button, enter the welcome message then
click 'save'.
Sending email to subscribers:
To send a mailing to all subscribers of your list address your email
to you_list_name@yourdomain.com.
List Server Commands:
The list server will accept the following commands from the body
of an email message:
- subscribe listname your_name
- unsubscribe listname your_name
- help
- help listname
- list
- list listname
- set mode digest listname
- set mode standard listname
When sending e-mail to the list server to perform any of these
commands, you must always address the e-mail to imailsrv@yourdomain.com.
